Originally built in 1902 as a “lock servants’ cottage”, the operations building at the Ruhlsdorf lock is the last operations building on the Finowkanal still preserved in its original condition. Due to its close proximity to the lock chamber, it has to be dismantled in accordance with the preservation order in order to create space for the renovation of the lock.
All components, such as the roof beams, bricks or windows and doors, are removed individually by hand, checked for damage and stored. For this purpose, the building was measured three-dimensionally in advance and photo-documented. Building materials damaged by age are then processed so that the building can be reconstructed true to the original once the lock construction work is complete.
