Lock season 2025

Press release

New season on the Finowkanal: Locks open again from April 17, 2025

Eberswalde, April 14, 2024 – The winter break is over: just in time for the long Easter weekend, the locks on the Finowkanal are opening their gates again. From Thursday, April 17, 2025, the locks on the Finowkanal will once again be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. for visitors to the region.

The six hand-operated locks are among the oldest in Germany and are a real technical cultural heritage. Whether from a boat or as a spectator from land – locking the locks is a fascinating experience for young and old.

As in the previous year, the western locks between Ruhlsdorf and Wolfswinkel will remain closed due to ongoing renovation work. The Drahthammer lock (at the family garden) will be operated by the Zweckverband Region Finowkanal on request with at least 24 hours’ notice.

There are no fixed operating times for the Eisenspalterei lift bridge this season. For boats that exceed a clearance height of 124 cm, based on 435 cm at the upper level of the Drahthammer lock, a bridge lift will be organized by the ZRF staff if required.

The Finowkanal is accessible to pleasure craft from the east via the boat lifts. Muscle-powered boats (such as canoes and kayaks) can also navigate the closed sections – however, they can only be transferred at the Schöpfurt lock.
