Sluice chamber floor

In Ruhlsdorf, the chamber floor was concreted in four sections. What is no longer visible, but was nevertheless very time-consuming, is the weaving of the reinforcing steel. This chamber floor forms the foundation of the future lock.

The steel reinforcement for the base of the structure is both impressive and functional. Together with the formwork, it gives the structure its shape and the necessary stability. The steel mesh almost looks like a work of art during the various construction phases. In the end, however, it forms a firm bond with the concrete and provides the necessary strength and load-bearing capacity of the lock floor.

In addition to installing the reinforcement, the first hydraulic steel components have already been installed, such as the mountings for the future lock gates in the lower head. These steel components are of crucial importance for the future function of the lock, as they will form the basis for the safe closing and opening of the gates.
