With the start of construction work on the Schöpfurt lock, a total of five locks are now under construction. The Schöpfurt lock was already thoroughly refurbished in 2006, so the current work is concentrating on installing the automation technology and building a new operations building. In the coming months, numerous meters of empty conduits will be laid for the automation control cables, which will also require some horizontal drilling.
