Located between Bad Freienwalde and Falkenberg, the Bismarckturm (“Bismarck Tower”) was built in 1895 and was one of the first towers erected in Germany in honour of the “Iron Chancellor”. Some 28 metres high (112 steps), the tower offers a view of the hills and gorges of Oberbarnim, Niederfinow boat lift, parts of the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve, the island of Neuenhagen and also the old town of Bad Freienwalde with the church of St. Nikolai. The Bismarckturm forms part of the so-called “Bad Freienwald Turmdiplom” – a special certificate issued for completing a hiking trail and ascending certain climbing towers.
