Oderbruch - Vom Berg ins Tal cycling tour

This tour through the Oderbruch (former marshland) running from mountain to valley passes through large paddocks and scattered farmsteads where you will find sheep bleating from time to time. Anyone living outside here is probably happy to be alone. Cyclists can “flit” between Bad Freienwalde and Wriezen in this remote location in the Oderbruch (former marshland). The Oder lowlands, once drained by the Prussian king Frederick II, fascinates with small hamlets and beautiful panoramic views. The eyes come to rest here! But the more lively town of Bad Freienwalde also has a lot to offer. The castle and grounds are also highly recommended as well as a visit to the “Haus der Naturpflege”, a museum preserving documentation about nature conservation, with an educational and display garden, a meadow orchard and a nature playground. Or take a stroll around the village of Groß Neuendorf. Here you will find an interesting shoe and smithy museum, galleries and the Töpferhof pottery studio. But cyclists can also round off their trip to the Oderbruch (former marshland) with a visit to a performance in the “Theater am Rand” theatre in Zollbrücke. Actors such a Thomas Rühmann or Ursula Karusseit rendezvous here – literally just beyond the Oder Dike.

• Train: Take the RE3 (Stralsund) regional express train from Berlin central station to Eberswalde. Take the RB60 (Frankfurt/Oder) regional train to Bad Freienwalde (about 1 hour).
• Car: From Berlin, take the A114 and A10 motorways and the B158 to Schwedt, passing through Angermünde (about 1 hour).

Return journey:

• Train: Take the RB60 regional train from Wriezen to Eberswalde. Take the RE3 (Lutherstadt Wittenberg) regional express train from here to Berlin central station (about 1.5 hours).
• Car: Take the RB60 regional train from Wriezen to Bad Freienwalde. Take the car back to Berlin from Bad Freienwalde (about 1.5 hours).
