Stecher Lock is located on the historic Finowkanal and is still operated by hand today. The lock was first constructed in 1749. A reconstruction was initiated in 1860, and the lock was completed in its present form in 1877. In 1912, the upper and lower gates were renewed. A weir was installed in the southern lock chamber in 1958, followed by the mechanisation of the winding mechanisms in 1968. Due to severe structural damage, the lock was closed in 1992, but after extensive restoration work it was reopened and returned to operation in 1998.
