The Niederfinow Ship’s Lift is a technical masterpiece. From the shore, the difference in altitude that has to be surmounted is an impressive sight: the ships are moved into an elevator in order to then be transported from the Oder-Havel Canal into the Old Oder. From there, the barges sail in the direction of Poland. Even if a freighter weighs 1,200, it only takes the Niederfinow Ship’s Lift five minutes before it has surmounted a difference in altitude of 36 metres. Passenger ships run every day from the nearby town of Eberswalde to take technology fans and anyone who loves a beautiful view to Niederfinow Ship’s Lift on board. Note: Restrictions (weather, utilisation, breakdowns, events) can occur at any time, even at short notice. Further information can be found on the Niederfinow boat lift website.
