Eberswalder Zoo was founded in 1928 as a wildlife park. After its complete destruction in April 1945 it was rebuilt and opened its doors again in 1958. It is now one of the best zoos in Germany. The Tigerturm tower was built in 2010 with a donation from the “Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Zoologischen Gartens Eberswalde e.V.” friends association. You can see golden eagles, reindeer, cheetahs and servals as you walk up to the Tigerturm tower. Once at the foot of the tower, it’s only a few more steps to the viewing platform, which affords a magnificent view of the stunning 1.2-hectare enclosure of the Siberian tigers. The Tigerturm tower is part of the Eberswalde high altitude pass, but it is only open to zoo visitors.
